Q & A with the Artist

We are proud to showcase a variety of different kinds of performing arts at the fringe.

What is your show? What kind of performance is it? What is it about?

My show is a combination of spoken word, poetry, and storytelling. Through a focus on place, I take the audience through meditations on memory, landscape, art, and the cosmos.

Fringe festivals are a place for art at all levels of creation. Where are you at in your process?

Is this a first draft? A previously produced piece? An experimental show? Or something else?

I weave a series of individual pieces I've performed, including poetry, spoken word, storytelling, and lyrics, into a unified show, including experimental and improvisatory elements. I used medieval memory theatre techniques to compose some texts.

Why did you submit your show to Omaha Fringe?

My sister-in-law lives in Omaha. The last time we visited I wrote a piece called "Flood Plain Forest," (about a conservation area just outside of town) which will be part of the show. I've loved the indie music scene in Omaha for years and look forward to participate in the indie theater scene.

What are you hoping audiences will experience when they see your performance?

What can audiences expect to take away?

I believe art is public space of the imagination. I'm taking the audience on a tour of some places I've composed. Audience members inhabit these places during the show, and afterward, may find them useful to visit, and transform, according to their own purpose.
