Q & A with the Artist

We are proud to showcase a variety of different kinds of performing arts at the fringe.

What is your show? What kind of performance is it? What is it about?

Brad and Jeff have been performing long-form improv as Fun Grip together since 2005. The Fun Grip Inventium is a complete play made up on the spot. Everything - characters, plot, etc. - is brand new each performance, never to be duplicated. The chief aim is to spontaneously generate a complete piece of theatre and to, you know, have a good time in the process.

Fringe festivals are a place for art at all levels of creation. Where are you at in your process?

Is this a first draft? A previously produced piece? An experimental show? Or something else?

Brad and Jeff both have years of experience as both professional actors, produced playwrights and directors, but more importantly for this, they have oodles of experience as improvisers. Though they have performed the show locally in Dallas, this is the first time they have taken the Inventium on the road, so it is an experiment in a way.

Why did you submit your show to Omaha Fringe?

Brad and Jeff brought the scripted show The Beast of Hyperborea to the 2023 Omaha Fringe and had a blast. We are looking forward to returning with the Fun Grip inventium.

What are you hoping audiences will experience when they see your performance?

What can audiences expect to take away?

The goal is to create a full piece of theatre... spontaneously. So we hope the audience leaves having experienced a complete story with motivated characters and a compelling plot, but, you know, improvised. That's the hope anyway.
